Thanks guys for jumping to my rescue and helping out. I owe you all! I know, I know...pay up with cheesecakes

Thank you Alexis. I have a bootie on its foot now. It should be ok in a day or two. I don't see any other problems with it other than it got a little trampled and cramped in the box I think.

And it was straight run, a brown and black standard size. I didn't know there were so many different types of Polish! They had ones with muffs, ones without muffs, ones with little round tops on their head, ones with just poofs...it was crazy lol. I'm like you Jeanine...I have my one little buff laced girl and I'm good with that. If she wasn't a cross beak, I'd probably rehome her too! Sorry all you Polish lovers...no offense

Hey,
I haven't had the chance to try any of your cheesecakes yet!

You are most definitely getting one! Lol just not the one I messed up today
lol.png
If you haven't been following on FB, I was so upset over all these chicks that I ruined a Strawberry Margarita cheesecake I made for Cino de Mayo, not to mention I made a complete mess of my kitchen in the process

I LOVE my polish! Just thought I'd let you know that I raise a lot of Polish, and plan to breed by next year, so if you end up with any special needs or rescue Polish in the future you can always contact me. I'll always help as long as there's room in the coop. I'm glad Alexis spoke up for it, as I have plenty of chickies at the moment, but if that falls through you can put me down as your back up plan.

I love how comical all of my Polish are. They keep me laughing.

Posting here for hopefully a quick and to the point response - like the mites and chick fighting posts - anyone have experience with an egg bound hen? My little white Serama is egg bound (yeah that is how my day started lol) and I've been frantically trying to help her. She got a warm bath this morning, she is sitting on a heating pad under towels now - one of the wet for the moist heat, she is in a quiet room with a heat light (75 watt light bulb) listening to Mozart and Bach lol with yogurt, hard boiled egg and water to nibble on (she isn't really eating). Her vent is red and always straining; she is pooping (bright green with white) and a little bit of white liquid just came out. I think I might feel an egg in there but if you know how tiny Seramas are, then you know how small their eggs are so it's really hard to tell. I don't want to mess around too much in fear of breaking it. She is sitting kind of hunched with her legs forward, tail moving up down like she wants to lay and her breath is gasping like. I also greased the vent area with olive oil and gave her antibiotics just in case. Anything else I can do? Any tips or advice? This is the one chicken thing I haven't been through yet so I'm flying blind here....if you don't want to post here, please PM me

I have not dealt with this problem myself, but I found this site for you. Maybe this will help? http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-treat-egg-binding-in-chickens.html

Yes, that is one of the places I read....I think at this point, I've exhausted every site and am doing all that I can. She seems content so I'm hoping that with more time the relaxing surroundings this will have a positive outcome.

That gives really good info, I can't think of anything to add to it....except to say, and I'm sure you've already thought of this....the future is not so bright for an egg bound chicken...they are not like other birds that egg bind, due to their frequency of laying. But if it's an overly large pullet egg, maybe she can be normal in the future....

I'm really sorry, I know this is the LAST thing you need to deal with right now.

Yeah no kidding lol. Sigh...yes and of course it is my all white Serama. I think the stress of her new rooster sent her over the edge because she has never had problems laying before (she's over a year old now). He has been given a new girl so hopefully is she pulls through this, she can go back to being a Momma's girl and live with her Silkie mom.

Try to crush up some TUMS and give her that to boost her calcium level, unless you've got liquid calcium drops hanging around by chance? If you're near a pet store, they usually carry liquid calcium for reptiles (like our iggy).

Mineral oil up the bum and down the hatch - it will help lubricate immediately by putting it in there, then if you can basically force-feed her some of it as well it will help her over the next 12+ hours.

I'd try to feel the egg the old fashioned way, but put gloves on, as your fingernails can and will put tiny scratches in there that will cause infection. Normally it's a pretty forgiving area of the body, but she's already stressed and her body needs all the help it can get. Sometimes you can get a little bit of mineral oil around the edge of the egg if you're careful, I've even been told to use a qtip on smaller hens.

Keep giving her warm baths and trying to relax her. Stroke her back in quick succession.. it basically causes a chicken orgasm and sometimes it will help get the egg pushed out of there.

Hope she is okay!

Thank you! I don't know if I have any of that stuff hanging around, but if not, I can get some. I did put some olive oil up her vent and around it. I will put some down her beak too. She is enjoying the music and the heating pad a lot. I tried to feel for an egg up inside, but their vents are tiny - I mean beyond tiny. I can't even get a pinky up there and I don't want to try anything else in fear of breaking the egg

I will try another bath before bed too....and the stroking is something I didn't know about lol...I'm sure she'll like it
