Oregon Spring Chicken Swap!! SAT, April 24!! Albany OR **UPDATED MAP*

My excess roos tend to find homes in the fridge. Don't worry though, if you don't want your roosters eaten, I just can't take them.

If anyone just wants to rid of their roosters and know they will be processed quickly and humanely, I've got plenty of fridge space. Looking for younger meat and have the ok for what ever I can process before bed time saturday.

ETA: It's often hard to find roo's forever homes because most flocks can tolerate one or two at most given enough space. It's so easy to saturate the market with roos because once you get that dream rooster, you don't want to let them go. I know the ones I have as flock keepers stay around for the whole natural lives, with my head roo now turning 6 and will probably be around for at least another few years before getting a new flock master. The prevoius roo was killed protecting his flock, and the roo before him died for some unknown reason in the middle of his 8th summer. We think his flock of young hens was too much for the old heart of his. LOL

Gosh, how hard is it to find homes for roos? Do you have a lot of luck? And you don't have to worry about me..I love farm raised chicken, but would never eat someone's pet.

This is the first year I have had a hard time rehoming my roos. The past 3 years, they go almost as quickly as I list them. This year, I've been listing them since January and nothing. It's killing me (and my husband - they are living in his garage lol) but I have to keep trying. I know a lot of people do not like barnyard mixes but they are wonderful roosters. I hand raise them so they are gentle. I also have a beautiful black with lemon and copper cochin banty and awesome OEGB's. I refuse to give up, but it's getting very discouraging I must say.

I would almost be interested in the little cochin roo if I knew what my little bantam chick was. I think the little cutie is a cochin but since it came out of the mystery bantam bin at the D.C. co op, we have no idea. Too early to tell sex either........

I hope you find homes for them at the swap, they sound very nice.

Background information is half the roos I'm trying to rehome I hatched with Diana in her incubator....4 of the 6 are from the candling progression thread here on the site. She is my "back up" for them, but I have grown attached to them so I'm finding it hard to send them to her freezer camp program

And seriously I would be ok if someday they end up as food...I just can't give them over to food right now. I need to know (in my crazy mind) that they are enjoying life as a chicken for a bit. Lol this is why I'm known as the crazy chicken lady

I hope so too. He's a very nice little roo, lives with his hatch mate a little black cochin pullet. I have 9 little banties I got out of my feed store bin - 6 of them cochins - and I'm sure a couple of them are probably roos. Sigh...more to rehome later this summer. Whatever I don't rehome on Saturday will come back with me till I can figure out what to do. The one thing about me is I never give up. It's both a good trait and a character flaw lol.

Hi I heard about the chicken stock from a nice lady at Costal Farms when a friend and I were getting are 3rd set of chicks this season... We don't have any we want to swap but may want to get a chick or two and I was wondering I make home made lotion would anyone be maybe interested in swaping a chick for lotion if there was one I just couldn't live with out???

To answer an earlier question, my Ameraucana chickies are from Stromberg's Unlimited and, while from a good hatchery, are still just production strain. I ordered them before I found out about the ones that Lensters has......

On a positive note, though, they all should be female.....

Hello! So we are still planning to attend...

Still bringing two Black Copper Maran cockerels. Hatched March 9th. Will consider any reasonable trade or cash. Wade and Presley Breeding programs. (One may be spoken for)
Also horseraddish plants.

Want: Pullets, any good layer. Cochins, Silkies, etc.
Some of those walking onions!

Ok, finally found out tonight some of what my friend is bringing...2-3 standard black cochin cockerels, a couple of black sex link pullets, possibly 2 black australorp pullets, also maybe a welsummer cockerel.
