Hi all, I am new to BYC and a new chicken mom of 2 months. I found, what looks like an organ, in the nesting box this morning. I am including a picture. It's about 3" long. I hope I'm wrong but it looks the reproductive system.

My 5 hens all look and are acting fine. Any insight would be appreciated.

I agree with @Aunt Angus , looks more like a malformed egg shell than lash material. It is hopefully just a glitch. Particularly if these are new layers, glitches can happen. Also sometimes when birds come back into lay after a molt or if they take the winter off they can have glitches. I would monitor, see if laying is normal after this. The fact that they are all acting fine is a good sign.

Just keep an eye on them. Make sure they are laying/acting normally. And i hope to goodness you don't find another.
I will keep a close eye on them. They're all acting normal. Vents /backsides look fine. Eating well. Laying nearly everyday. I'm going to give them another look over just to make sure I didn't miss anything. Thanks so much!

Good morning, Wanted to give an update. First, all the hens are fine. Watched the hens to figure out it was my hen Cinnamon, that was laying the lash egg. She laid an egg this morning, the shell was very thin. Couldn't tell looking at it until you picked it up. Anyhow, they have oyster shell (free choice) but I mixed some in their feed this morning. I think it may have been from the heat. Was upper 90's all week. She seemed impacted by it more than the other hens. They have plenty of shade and froze gallon jugs of water and set them around for them to lay near, which they did. I have a cool outbuilding I can move them into if the heat continues. If you think I could be doing anything else, please let me know. Thanks again everyone!
