Organic feed in Los Angeles area?

It has been bugging me. I have checked around the Los Angeles and Orange Co. area for Organic feed in stock and online. After posting earlier, I decided to ask about ordering at my local feed store. Not a problem. Opps. All this time, I assumed since it wasn't on the shelf or in the labeled bins, they didn't carry it.

Blacksmith's Corner on Lakewood will special order it for you from the mill they usually get their feed from. I don't remember the name of the mill, sorry. I'll ask when I go in again. They can get starter and pellets. The down side is you have to pay in advance for the order. I believe the starter was $29.95 for 50lbs. Same price/ same volume on the layer pellets. The lady said 1 to 2 weeks for it to be delivered, depending on when they need the next regular shipment from the mill.

50lbs. $25.00. The owner said he usually has it in stock. Call to check. Very helpful and even has a drive thru for large items. They will load your car for you.

visit the organic feed company that sponsors BYC -- their West Coast supplier is in CA (and ordering from them supports BYC

Shrader asked "Does anyone in the LA area have a source for organic feed?
I've been ordering it online, and it's just so expensive to ship." .... I think he was tired of being gouged by online suppliers and the shipping premium like the rest of us.

Why would someone order a shipped feed that goes from central CA cross country and then ship it back to CA? Not a very green choice, even if it does support a BYC sponser. I'm sorry, but we need better choices.

Plus, if you can get 50lbs. for $25 locally vs. 5lbs. for $6.75 online from a "BYC sponser", if you do the math I think that is $67.50 for the same 50lbs. Then there is the shipping fee in addition to that. The $25 for 50lbs. is already double the price of conventional feed, why pay more than that?

We all have to go to a feed store anyway to buy other supplies like bedding, so why not do it all at one local store?

I really like this store but I didn't know they had organic feed. Good to know, thank you. I don't live in the area anymore but on my next trip to the OC I will be stopping in.

Oh wait .... maybe not .... they have lots of baby chicks at this time of year and I could get myself in REAL TROUBLE!!!

Why wouldn't someone click on the link (which I'm sure is a pay-per-click link) to find out who the CA based supplier is? With that knowledge they would be able to look for a closer source to get the feed.
