Hi All,
My name is Eric. I am the plant manager and co-owner of Green Mountain Feeds inc. I was browsing around the forum for some info of my own, and saw that there were some threads with questions about us...... I will check the forum, from time to time, to see if I can help in any way!!
enggass- As far as layer feeds go, we have a few different types, and different processes..... We start with cerified organic whole grains, and do the following to it-
1- Layer Pellets= Grains are ground fine, mixed with the vitamin/mineral supplements, and then run through a pelleting process. The pelleting of our animal feed is done by adding a small amount of steam in a paddle type feed conditioner, and then the feed is mechanically pushed through a Die assembly (similar process to a spaghetti press). Knives cut the pellets to length, and then they are air cooled, Sifted for fines, and then aspirated(blown off with air) at the bagger.
2-Layer Mash= Grains are medium ground, mixed with Vitamin Mineral Supplements, and then straight to the bagger.
3-Coarse Layer= This layer feed consists of mostly whole or cracked grains. The only ground grain is the flax, due to that product being ground already before we get it here. This feed also has a full vitamin/mineral supplement in it, however, it doesnt stay perfectly mixed due to the coarse texture.
vmdanielsen- Depending on which store you get our products from, they should be able to order our Course Layer for you. It sounds like it's what you are looking for. They can also get whole barley for you (which would work better as scratch in the winter because it is higher in energy) Your birds will likely produce a little bit better on the Layer Pellets than the Coarse Layer, However, It would be a very small difference, and would probably never be noticed..... If you are having trouble getting the products that you want from us, please let me know.
