What breed would you suggest as a non hybrid or modified meatie?

We want to try meat birds for the first time, but have some reservation about getting hybrid or Cross type birds.

Thanks!

Delaware's were the broiler industry before the hybrids came along. They are meaty. Lots of heritage birds good for meat. Del's are mostly white so look nice when cleaned.

I'm going to buy a few extra Delaware cockerels from a friend to try. He has good lines & true heritage birds. We are also going to eat our excess Dorking boys.

I'm planning a taste test BBQ this summer using grocery store chicken, Cornish X, Dels & Dorkings. Should be interesting & fun! We'll have 2 of each & 2 cooking methods.... low & slow on the grill & brining then cooking in the turkey fryer. Going to test out both methods with the heritage breeds first, since they'll be older birds.
