Hello Friends,

I have never quite seen a thread based around this particular topic. Let me tell you something, sometime I'd like to have Ornithology as a career! And I am no professional birder/photographer... But I absolutely love watching the little gifts from God soar through the sky, perch on a tree, it is just so peaceful and amazing.

Any other non-domesticated bird lovers out there?
You do not need to be an expert to join! This is for showing off your fun bird photos, sharing tips and tricks when it comes to taking a photograph of a bird, even chatting away about your favorite bird breed(s) and why!

So please, join today in my newest thread and I'd be glad to speak with you! Use this as a blog, like everytime you go birding... Share your experience!
Has anybody here ever done a big year? Please fill us in on what it was like if you have!

I hope to make new friends and run into the old when discussing this topic! And I sure do hope that you enjoy this thread. No need to knock, come straight in and share your thoughts and stories!!

Have a very fine day and God bless. Thank you for viewing this thread, I appreciate your time.

Best Regards,
-The Angry Hen

P.S. Please make this a comfortable and appropriate thread. Follow all BYC rule and rules in generel. Please get along, if we have different opinions then others, share but please don't push! Thank you!

So yes, this is a very quick update! Today I sat outside until it got too cold, after a day with a few projects relaxing while watching the birds was needed. My favorite type of bird is the White Breasted Nuthatch! Here is a photo of one I got a few days ago:

The Red Breasted Nuthatches are a bit flighty and less trusting, but sure are lovely birds as well! Here's the best I could get of her today:

And the good ole' Tufted Titmouse! What precious birds. Very fun to watch and quite tricky to get a picture of though...

I use a Nikon Coolpix (4800). As you can see, it's sadly a bit grainy in these photos. I have a Nikon B700 (Coolpix as well) on order. We shall see what it's like! What do you use?

Best Regards,

I know this is conflicting to my interest in poultry since they like to dine on our friendly pets, but Raptors are my favorite wild bird species. I had an internship at the The Raptor Center in St. Paul, MN and got to learn a lot about them, and how to handle them for programs and such (Eagles, Owls, Hawks, and Falcons). It was amazing and I would love to be able to do that as a career. That was 6 years ago though, so that doesn't seems likely haha. Someday, I hope to get into Falconry. I look forward to everyone's stories!

ETA: My other favorites species are Swallows, Swifts, Hummingbirds, Cedar Waxwings, and Chickadees to name a few.

Hello there,

Nice to meet you and thanks for responding!
That is wonderful! Yes, I agree. Raptors are very fascinating creatures. What is your favorite thing about the Raptor? :D I can't wait to hear the stories either!

I love the choices you wrote, Swallows are so beautiful. One bird that I always wanted to see is the Rose-breasted Grosbeak. They are very pretty!! Just wish there were more in my area of Maine! :)

This year was the first year I saw Waxwings, actually. They look robotic and are very nice looking birds. Quite fascinating as well. I have to find a picture of the ones I saw when I get on my regular PC.

Best Regards,

I am missing the hummingbirds, we had so many here and one day they just all disappeared. Migrated i guess.

Yeah, it's sad when they start to leave. It's possible one more will come before full on winter... But doubtfully. They are such beautiful birds! :)

Best Regards,
