Orphan baby chick, HELP!

Well Little Britches made it thru the night. Got out of the box at midnight, but came right to me. Slept the rest of the night, me too! Lol I bought medicated baby chick food. But found out it likes toast!! Coming from someone that is not fond of birds due to a bad childhood experience, I have grown attatched to that little thing. No name yet...how long before you can tell if its male/female? Anybody have one for an inside pet? My chihuahua has already started protecting him from the other dog lol Thanks to everyone for the adivce!

Very happy for you and the little one. I said for years that I would never have chickens, bad experience also, but now I truely enjoy them.
If I tried to keep a grown one in the house I'm afraid I might end up sleeping in the coop.

I have 3 serama that I keep inside as well as silkie , you can even get diapers for them when they have grown up. Chickens will eat almost anything you eat but make sure she gets most of her nutrition from chick feed but you can give her little treats . You should post a picture , some breeds of chickens you can tell as chicks if there boys or girls some take 3-6 weeks and some are hard to tell till they start crowing or laying eggs. My silkie was almost 5 months I think when we were sure she was a hen and my serama I can tell by about 3 weeks usually, it depends on the breed.

Sorry to hear that. If you're like me, it doesn't take much to let them into your heart. I'm sure you did all you could and that was much better than leaving it where you found it.
