I was checking the horse pasture round bale today, I looked in the same areas I have been checking out for the past 2 weeks for a missing hen. Unfortunately what led me to the nest was a broken egg. Of all of the eggs in the nest 4 are intact, 1 has tooth marks in it but does not appear to have broken the membrane.
I have candled the eggs and need help in determining an approximate number of days they are into development or days till I should put them in lock down. All seem to have visible veins.

They are not very far into development. Check on them again in 2 1/2 weeks. When they internally pip, you can put them into lockdown.

You may want to leave out the one with tooth marks in case it has become contaminated with bacteria.

I removed the egg with the tooth marks. :( But I would hate to anticipate its arrival and lose it anyways or cause issues st birth that could be transmitted to the other chicks. Thank you for your response.

Just turned turned to day 21. Went to check the eggs to see if I could see an internal pip for a lockdown. I was candling the eggs and pulled out another egg, as I was moving the egg off the light I noticed :)eek:) a couple cracks in the egg. No air hole. Removed the turned and made sure the egg was crack side up. Placed the incubator into lock down.:fl

Good luck.

I helped the chick who had started cracking the shell, it had been 2.5 days since the crack appeared in the shell. It has been 10 hours and it is not able to stand. Anything I can do for it? I know there is a post about issues after birth. Still trying to locate the one I am looking for. I was going to mix up some electrolytes also. Help

I have taped it’s legs and have found where it has cut it’s head in the many attempts to stand. I will put some Antibiotic ointment on it. And since it has hatched this morning, I have it .1 cc electrolytes.
