I live in a neighborhood with a lot of traffic and a mother duck was killed leaving her babies to fence for themselves. They’ve been in my front lawn and I’ve fed them but I’m afraid if left alone they might end up like their mother. How long before they realize their mother is not coming back? They’re about 4 to 6 weeks old. Please advise, thank you.

They are close to the age where many mothers would already be weaning them. They will remain as long as you feed them. Sadly, they may very well end up getting hit like their mother.

Would it be best for them if I take them to another location where there is no traffic? However, if I do that they will not be familiar with the area and also there is a pond and I’m worried since they don’t have feathers only their baby down they might drown if the get in the water. What’s your advise?
