Remember the cute pics I posted Sat of the baby goats?

Well, today is my day off and I got a call when the crew got in this morning that the momma goat was down and couldn't get up. I scrounged up some milk replacer and headed over there. Apparently she had a 3rd kid that was very tiny that had died before birth and had been retained. I thought she still looked bloated, but on palpation, I couldn't feel anything that felt like another baby, just mushy, over stretched uterus, and she was up and around, no straining, no fever, the babies were nursing. She seemed fine when I left yesterday afternoon.
She was straining and very weak when I got there. I got the babies started on a bottle and one of the girls was feeding them when I left to go get milk replacer and glucose. Not 5 minutes later, I got the call that Momma had died. She held on just long enough to see that we were feeding her babies.

SO I convinced my boss to let me bring them home with me for a few days, cuz they need to be fed every 4 hours or so the first week. (not easy cuz he has had people take "sick" goats, chickens etc. home and claim they died. Some actually did, and some they just lied about and kept. We have lost quite a few hens and baby chicks that way. The number in the pen will be down by a few and someone will say they were dead when they got there in the morning and they disposed of them. Then a few weeks later you meet them in the feed store buying chicken feed or go by their house and there is a pen of (coincidentally) the same breed that went missing!
But anyhow, I convinced him I would A) take the best care of them and B) bring them back. Heck, I live a mile from the stable, he could always come get them!
SO this is a sad post becasue of Tinkerbell dying, but I now have 2 cute little babies that are going to be spoiled rotten!

Rocky the Cat: "What the HECK has she brought home THIS time!?"

Sorry to hear you lost the momma, I hope the baby's will grow strong and be healthy.
what will happen to them once they go back to the shelter?

love the cat !!

I work at a riding stable, so they will go back there and be treated like pets. The kids that come to ride will be able to pet them and they will be spoiled rotten. We have one that thinks she is a llama! She lives in the llama pen (her choice) and comes down to the barn and jumps in the wheelbarrow of feed whenever she feels like it. Hopefully, these 2 will learn from their older sister. She runs around the horses and plays with the dogs and cats.

so do you have boys or girls? i missed the other pics you posted so I am getting in to the story a little late LOL
do you have names already in mind for them? i sure hope they are doing alright

UPDATE!
I finally got both of them to take the bottle. The bigger one was refusing it. But I just got about an ounce down him and hios little sister chowed down almost 2!
They are African Pygmys, the little black and white one is a girl, I call her PeeWee and the bigger white whith black points is a male and I called him Boots.
I will take a couple more pics next feeding.

Moonwalker, those babies are too cute!! I do have a question though. You said that you had to feed them every 4 hours? I thought that you had to feed them every 2. I have raised several bottle babies and that is what I alway's did. Just wondering.

I raise Nigerian Dwarfs and you need to fee newborn babies every 2 hrs for at least 3 day and then you can move it to every four hrs and slow down at night. the mother dont feed them during the night. Also I would use cows milk it is better for them than replacer. Replacer can giv scours and thats not good. Cows milk will clabber in their tummys and be better for them. Also they only need 2 ozs for the first couple days and then slowly move it to 4 ozs per feeding, they are little pigs and will take all you give them. You dont want them to overeat and get sick. Make sure the milk you give them is 102 degrees as that will help them hold their body heat and stay well and warm. They need a c/d shot for overeating disease too. It should be the antitoxin as the other which is toxoid will take 21 days to go into effect. Just trying to help you with them and give what I think might help raise them. If you need any other help just pm me and I will do my best. They are adorable and I cant wait till all of mine start kidding soon just a few more weeks to go...
