first time posting,
today I acquired 8 2 week old chicks and don't have a heat lamp for them! its burned out and the shops are closed. I've put them in the warmest room in the house its about 80 degrees, with a heating pad under half of their brood box and put a couple of hot water bottles wrapped in cloth. they aren't crowding together or tending towards the warm side of the box but they are making a huge racket so I don't think they are happy. any ideas for emergency set ups to get them the through the night?
also they had been with their mother so far and quiet down if I stick my hands in the box and crown around my hands, could the noise just be that they miss their mother?

They should be fine at that temp in the house. Do you have a stuffed animal or feather duster you can put in their box? They are just missing their mom.

it probably won't be that warm all night, it's winter down here. I've given them a wee cardboard box cave and the heat pad under there is starting to warm it up. they have settled a bit and all gone in to cuddle for the night. don't have any teddies unfortunately.

really dont need one...my grandpa just made a cave for them from straw with little opening for them to in and out and they lived back before heat lamps and such..
