They're so cute!
I like hearing they've both gone broody. I only have the 3, but I plan to order 12 more in the spring. My plan is to breed them to sustain our own flock, and I have a few friends that want some. I'm going to get an incubator too, but I'd love to have mama hens raise some.I agree with @AnneGirlGG , standard orpingtons are typically docile. I have two standard buff orpingtons, and one is very docile but the other is very skittish! I do think they are generally friendly though. Both of them have gone broody, and they are only about a year and a half old.
Oh my goodness, where did you find them? I've only got standards, but I have an entire bantam flock that I would love to add these to!!
Yep, although they seem to only go broody when I don't want them to, and not when I do want them too!I like hearing they've both gone broody. That sounds right. I keep reading stories here about bantam cochins going broody all the time or at really inconvenient times. I'm like, "yep, you had the 2, and you just had to order 14 more."Yep, although they seem to only go broody when I don't want them to, and not when I do want them too!![]()
I got them as hatching eggs from duck hollow farms! Last time I checked the website was taken down tho! I recently losted the rooster but have two hens that have successfully raised chicks in the pastOh my goodness, where did you find them? I'm sorry about your rooster. They are really pretty birds. I had 4 chicks, and I lost the one that I believe was black at week old. I have 2 blue females, and I'm not sure yet if my male is another, much lighter blue or a splash.I got them as hatching eggs from duck hollow farms! I have an all Orpington flock of 10, but they are standard/full size. I am also interested in Bantams, but I can't seem to find anyone close by that breeds them. All of my girls are very easygoing, sweet, friendly. They have accepted new pullets extremely well and easily, no major fighting, injuries, etc. I may be bias, but I love them and think they are the best breed of chicken.Oh, how are they, in your experience? Good with other breeds?
I think maybe it's Cackle Hatchery that sells buff orpington bantams. But I haven't seen them in other colors.I have an all Orpington flock of 10, but they are standard/full size.
