Hi everyone!
Long time lurker, so thought it was about time that i actually joined and posted :frow

Okay so I'm a bit of a hobby breeder and would like to try and create a Buff Columbian Orpington! From what I've read it's quite difficult but I can't actually find what colours you shoukd even start with??
Can anyone please help and shed some light on this for me?!
Cheers! :)

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Genetic adventures can be sooo much fun. :wee

Check out this color calculator tool. It doesn't account for any bleed through of color or pattern, but it's a great way to be vaguely clued in. The second drop down tab is in english....

To be quite honest... finding and joining some breeders clubs for Orps might be a fantastic resource... It sure has been for some of my breeds. While BYCer's are hugely knowledgeable, fanciers tend to have a deeper understanding of the breed and the genetics specific to it and how they interact with other genes. Some sites allow you to access all the information without joining!

Maybe leaning what makes buff and what makes Colombian.. meaning their genotype...can help. Gonna give some basic learning links... and note that I often use what I can find about other breeds to figure out things in the breed I am working with (however it has to be a breed that the gene works the same in as they don't do that across the board 100%)...

Good luck, having something be a challenge is part of what makes it uniquely yours AND interesting! :fl

Hope this help get you started... :pop

Wow!
Thank you so much for the links! They were really interesting (& fun!)
I'm just struggling to find any real information out there about the Buff Columbian as a colour?
I will keep searching and hopefully find some more people along the way :)
