I recently crossed a Buff Orpington rooster with a Lavender Orpington hen and got black chicks that had buff coming through.

A cockerel from the cross:

If I were to take a male from this cross and mate him with a Buff Orpington hen, what would I expect to see? (I'm thinking that I would get half buff colored chicks and the other half would look like the male, but I'm not sure.)

Also, does anyone have any idea what the offspring would look like if I mated him with a Jubilee Orpington? (The offspring would look very strange, right?)

Thank you in advance.

I would go to the kippenjungle chicken calculator. There is a part in which it helps you figure out your birds genotypes and then it will cross them. I find it very helpful (and addictive)

Thanks for the response.

I have used the chicken calculator before, but I've had lots of difficulty with it. I really need to take some time out and figure out how to use it.

Thanks again!

I go to an ag school and for my year long project I've been figuring out my chickens' genotype I use the part that helps you figure out the genotypes and then I cross them if the chicks match last batch I have it right and if not I keep changing it.I also did a lot of research in what each gene does.I can post that later today when I have my 6 plus pages of chicken genetics
