Orpington coxcomb turning black?

My 5 month white orpington rooster has a piece of his coxcomb that has turned black (see pic) Anyone know anything about this? No change in his behavior - he is active and "ruling the roost" as always...

It appears as if his comb was injured resulting in diminished blood supply to that part. That part will dry up and eventually fall off. Are you positive that the bird is a cockerel ?
