I have a small mixed flock and really like my BO. I'm already thinking about my next birds (can you say another coop?). I really like the blue coloration on chickens which causes me to wonder if the other-than-buff-colored Orpingtons have the same sweet personalities as the buffs.

I have heard buff is much calmer and does better in confinement than blue and black. Someone had actually reached out to me that purchased buffs and asked why their blacks (which were purchased elsewhere) were so mean and picky towards each other. Since I had not raised blacks, I really couldn't help. So I'm not sure if it depends on how they are bred or where they originate or what. I would have thought all color varieties are bred for the same personality, but I don't think that is the case all of the time.

My experience is limited to LF buffs (hatchery) and breeder raised blue/black bantams. The buffs were as sweet as anyone could ask for to me, a bit bossy to the other chickens. The B/B bantams were ok but not particularly friendly. The cockerels were impossible to raise together. I have found, in general, however, LF and bantams are like apples and oranges.

I have Lavender Orpingtons and they are very sweet chickens. Once I had a blue Orpington rooster. He was nice enough but he defiantly didn’t like to be cuddled as much, even though he was raised the same way as my lavender Orpingtons.
