I recently purchased this chick locally and upon pick up the owner told me they had allowed the chick to be raised by its mother hen outside. She stated the chick is 6 weeks old and had been living fully outside since hatch. I did not see the living conditions but based on the owner, I do not feel they were probably the best. Lesson learned.
Initially, I noticed the chick seemed to have a swollen crop and an odd stool color. I have had the chick now for a few days and the crop seemed to be softer, however the stool still seems to be an off color. It looks orange. I am now concerned this chick may be sick? Or very poorly cared for before I picked it up.
I have since added 5 chicks to the brooder and I do not want to risk infecting them if this chick is ill. Any thoughts?
If this chick is sick, please advise on treatment and if I should isolate it.
Thanks so much for any input.
