I'm getting a Buff Orpington chick for a pet, and had a few questions (I've never had Orpingtons before). I had not even thought about heat being a problem until I saw it mentioned on another thread. The hottest I've seen it get around here is 102 degrees, will it bother her too much? The coldest I've seen is -2, but I didn't really think cold would be a problem. Is there anything I can do to make the hot weather easier on her? Also I've read that they go broody very easily. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? How will she do with our other birds? We are changing out our laying flock, we currently have 28 red sex links, 4 little chickens (have no idea what breed... they were sold to us as easter eggers, but only one lays green eggs, and they are all very small), 3 ducks, and a leghorn rooster. We are keeping the rooster, the ducks, and the little chickens. The new flock we are getting will also be red sex links, my Buff Orpington, a barred rock hen, and a white Cochin hen. I've heard Orps and BRs get along good, but I was just wondering if that's true. I've heard ducks can be aggressive toward chickens. We have one male and 2 females, they are very good to the chicken, but we got the ducks as babies after our flock was grown. Will they be mean to the new girls? Sorry for all the questions, I'm very excited!
Thanks!
