New to breeding chickens and I would like advise if ( 2) RIR hens and (3 ) New Hamshire hens can be put in a run / coop with 2- Orpington Roosters - one a buff and the other a white- and be able to take the weight of the rooster during mating process. Will she have leg issues, back issues etc. They would be in a run with 15 other orpington hens so they are not the sole hens for them to mate with. The RIR and New Hampshires are almost 6 months old and the orpingtons are almost 8 montns old. Any advise would be appreciated.

The weight shouldn't be an issue, RIR's are big enough, you will only need to worry if you get bantam breeds. One thing to add, unless they were raised together the roosters will most likely fight eachother.

Thank you so very much for the reply! I have separated the RIR & the New Hampshire hens into a separate run and put my white orpington rooster- Solomon - in with them. The orpington roosters were not raised together (Boaz the buff and Solomon the white) and were indeed fighting a lot. So my best newbie solution is to have 2 runs/ coop yards. So far the reds are enjoying having a rooster but they do seem a little puzzled about the constant rooster dances around them and I have witnessed him doing the wild thing with a RIR and she appears to be fine afterwards. One day I hope to have Red Orpington chicks :) BTW one of my favorite verses as well. 🙌
