OSB for chicken coop walls?????

Use a roller with a thick nap. It will make painting the rough OSB easier.

What if you cover the OSB with linoleum? That's what I was planning to do.. We have some leftover but I have seen scraps on sale at Home Depot for really cheap (if that would help you Alienchick).

It depends on what type of OSB you are planning to use. There is a brand that is designed for floors it is called ADVANTEC and it tounge and grooved on the sides for strength and is 3/4 of a inch thick. But it is really pricey roughly 25 to 35 dollars a sheet"atleast it is around here" We used it in new homes for years till the bottom fell out of the housing market. I wouldnt put the 7/16th thick stuff on the floor painted or not. It isn't designed for use laying flat. Its ok for roofs because they don't generally have foot traffic on them.

I'm about halfway through the construction of my small coop, and I used the 1/2" OSB for my flooring. The dimensions of the coop are 6' long by 3.5' wide. It is raised 2' off the ground currently. I have painted the floor with about 4 coats of Kilz Interior/Exterior Paint, would you all recommend that I add linoleum flooring just to be safe? This coop is only going to get bird traffic walking around inside due to its small size. After reading this thread, I think I should paint the bottom just for good measure, although its not going to be fun crawling under there with the roller!

and OSB (with or without linoleum) will work ok at first... but personally I would not do it, when I build something I like it to *stay* built rather than have it die prematurely and have to go out and buy more stuff to aggravatingly rebuild it.

I used it on my coop walls because I got it ultra cheap out of the Home Depot cull bin. My tactic was to paint for a little extra life and to use screws, so when a piece does go bad I will go back to the cull bin and replace it.

If you plan to cover the outside with siding it will work.

OSB wont' hold up to moisture as well as plywood, and untreated plywood won't last nearly as long as salt treated

HI what kind of plywood do I need to buy treaded? or regular for the walls do you know?
