OSB - will chickens be able to scratch the chips from the board?

I used this OSB everywhere inside and out in my new building BUT I do have a friend who had a bunch of really old but really good oil based paint. So far the outside of this building has got about 4 gals and the inside is up to about 10 gal so far. I am blessed that this paint hasn't costed me a dime...

It's not only not meant for high moisture areas, it's not meant to be exposed at all. Plywood of the same rating, such as CDX, is not meant for exposure either, it is still only used for underlayment. There are other plywood, OSB, and hardboard products that are rated for use as exterior siding, generally they are formed or have relief cuts to improve their appearance as siding. T1-11 comes to mind as a popular plywood-based siding.

I don't have a bias against it, it's a good product when used properly. Take a look at my BYC page. I build a coop with 3/4" exterior ply for floor decking, a hardboard siding product for the siding, and OSB as roof decking.

Deep litter doesn't necessarily keep the floor dry. Leaky waterers, blowing rain, and poor ventilation can lead to damp or wet litter that holds the moisture to keep the floor from drying.

I should also mention that even though I used osb on everything I also have a min 2 ft overhang on both sides with a 3 1/2' overhang on the end that most gets the blow in weather. This is geared toward keeping the whole area dryer.... I paid about $5.99 a sheet. It saved me hundreds of dollars on this large project

Doubt chickens can scratch up the OSB. Siding over the OSB for the walls should be just fine as you will be using it as sheathing. Unless you put a vapor barrier under the floor, and linoleum over the floor, I would still go with exterior ply. All my walls and roof are exposed, and my project was small, so I just went with exterior rated, not sheathing rated ply.
