My little boy is 9 and has asperger's. It was like pulling teeth to get a diagnosis. He had some severe problems at first but is doing very well now. He is definitely overly emotional and he has sensory issues. He was extremely phobic of all animals for years until we got the chickens. We got them when they were chicks last spring and have raised them since. He has done extremely well with them and has even learned to be less afraid of other animals (like our dog, rabbits, ducks and pigs) I am so proud of my chickies for helping him with that. They are all extremely docile even my roo. He protects his flock but he is not mean to us at all. I'm not sure how he'd react to and emu though
probably something like this
I imagine something that big would scare him to death. They do have the most beuatiul eggs though. I think that's the ones I saw any way. They were on ebay and were turquoise green.
oohhh turqoise??? or however you spell that??? fun.....
once we know for sure what's going on with the property we're leasing i might get an emu or 2.. i was reading that even though they're still big and can be dangerous, they're not as big as ostrich... and we have a donkey and goats.. are thinking we may end up with a horse or 2 in december... *crosses fingers* so big animals aren't a problem here...
it would sure be fun... but a lot of thinking and convincing the hubby and researching....

The emu that was next door to us was a lot of fun to watch. It was like a great big chicken. It would sprint across the pen for treats and shoulder the goat and deer out of the way to be first. We would give it grapes on the end of a stick because they have a very raspy mouth and will rake a child's hand pretty bad. When it would run around the pen it would lower its head nearly to the ground and its gigantic legs would rotate like a cartoon character. It had an acre to run around in so it would build up a lot of speed and zoom around the corners. Hilarious! It was never aggressive that I saw and it lived there for 2 years before they rehomed it to a petting zoo.
that would make a great inspirational picture.... you know the ones with the picture surrounded by black and then aomething written in white... something like "dream big" or "push yourself to achieve extremes"
ooohhh i might have to get one of the ones they ell that's blown just to take the picture..... hhhmmmmm don't have a silky yet... don't have a broody hen at all.... hhmmmmm
