Dogs will chase someone running/jogging. Though minding your own business walking is fraught with danger too. I had a guy "sic" his dog on me. I had a short riding crop with me. The dog kept trying to get behind me- I kept turning to face him - knew he was a cowardly back biter. I raised the crop and the dog could tell I was fixing to let him have it. He eventually slunk away.
BIG Chow Chow. I carried the crop because we had(have) coyotes and assorted other beasts popping out of the forest preserve.
