What a whoppa! First time this year we have 8 eggs from 8 chickens. Our new layers that we hatched ourselves last August are now up to size and speed. That is honestly a genuine chicken egg, but we think maybe she was egg bound yesterday as she was walking funny. Gave them some apple cider vinegar in their water and out it pops. Must have hurt!!

Believe me, the other are normal size, not small at all. We regularly get a double yolker from one of the girls but it is not this big. The shell seems to be "wrinkled" too. So I'm thinking that while this is interesting and amusing to us, could signify that she had a problem. Advice welcome.

Could be a shelled egg in a an egg....definitely a multiple yolker.

Pop it open and take some more pics!

Will open tomorrow and post a photo.

This is what was inside the huge egg. Another egg, complete with hard shell!

Quote: Oh I guessed right!!

Multiple yolkers happen when more than one ova is released at the same time and is encased in one shell.
What I've read about a shelled egg within an egg is that a fully formed/shelled egg can travel back up beyond the shell gland and join another yolk, both getting covered in albumen and then shelled.
