Our 4 little Black Australorp winter babies

10 days old today. They now run up to me when I show up in hopes that I am bringing some of those yummy grasshoppers. 🤣 One with a little tail, the others just fluffy butts. Praying for pullets.

I also like hatching in the last half of the year, so that when spring rolls around they are old enough to start laying eggs. Normally last of August through September...
Second time this hen went broody. Her other hatching are now 19 weeks. We were not expecting it either time. She is just 10 months old. Just hoping I don't have to find a new home for any cockerels. :)

Momma and her babies today. 15 days old. It has been cold here - cold for us ~ 40 degrees. Momma still bringing her babies out to mull around. Funny story - Cogburn will come and tell momma to take the babies in when it is getting time for everyone to go back into the run around sunset. Today, she was being a little stubborn and not wanting to go in. Cogburn wasn't having it. After telling her once and being ignored, he came and pecked her on the head. She immediately got up and took the babies into not only the run, but the coop. She is a good momma.
