Over the weekend we let the guinea's out of their area in the chicken coop and they are doing fine...

This is my second year for Guineas and if my experience means anything you will be able to keep those Guinea's with those chickens no problem. Mine stayed in a 5 foot fence no wing clipping and only flew out occasionally and would go right back in at night. They roosted with the chickens.

This year as they have begun to lay and mate they have mosied off to themselves and sort of hang out in the barn. I have an idea that if I had those cocks in with the hens they might get after them a bit.

AS it is they get along just fine. I am going to see if i can get them to roost with the hens again this winter so I just have to keep water open in one pen. I will see how that goes.

Not sure what you are planning to do, but for a year they will be just fine as they are I am sure.

They are goofy birds. Yours may split tommorrow and never band with chickens again. LOL

Are you letting them out all the time now?

We let them have free run of the coop now and they mostly roost... get down to eat when I bring food in, they havent ventured out to the run yet, I'm just going to let them when they figure out they can get out by the chicken door. Some of the chickens still like to chase the guineas around the coop.

greathorse - Thanks, We are planning on just letting them stay in the coop/run with the chickens, see what happens...........

I am sure you will be just fine until perhaps breeding season, and even after that I think quite likely. It is when they started breeding that they got a little more sketchy, but I really think if I would have pushed them back to the chickens a bit more they would be fine.

I have about 48 eggs in the bator now so you can tell how much I dislike the little guys. I started with the French guinea and did not like them as much, except dinner wise quite delicious.
