Hi!
I've been lurking on this site for several months now. My wife says we can have chickens if I find chicken friends in my area to support the habit. After reading carefully through many threads on getting started, I see her point. However, it has just strengthened my resolve to have a flock of my own.
We've just moved into a home with a half acre backyard outside of city limits. I haven't gone totally wild though- I envision a small flock of 6-8 hens. We have two small boys and are adding a third soon, so it's more important to have a gentle flock than an egg laying machine. Since I'll probably be building the coop and run from scratch, the coop forums have been very inspiring.
A friend I've known for many years recommended the BYC site to me. I'm joining so that I can pester more experienced members with questions and prove to my wife that I'm ready to be the Chicken A La King.
