I will admit it...I am in LOVE with barns. Don't ask me why, I have no idea. So after I convinced my DH that we should get chickens, he decided that I NEEDED a barn shaped coop. We planned on 5 chickens 10 MAX and took some chicken math into consideration.
This was my idea:

This was my DH's plan (**note the run is not shown fully so you can see the details, but the run will be 11'x20' fully enclosed so they can have a safe place when they are not out free ranging or we're not home):

This is what was already on our property when we bought our home:

As well as this old coop hidden in the woods...it was rotting! We tried to salvage parts, but it didn't work out. The only thing we came away with from that were 8 nesting boxes and we don't even NEED that many!!:

We have only been working on Saturdays as that is my DH's only day off. We have a Forman who inspects the materials before we use them, she reminds us, "Safety first":

DAY ONE Build:
We managed to get the anchors drilled into the concrete and put up all four walls of the barn.

DAY TWO Build:
This was MY favorite build day so far (and we've only had 2, but shhh). The DH allowed me to use his miter saw and I spent the day mostly cutting the angles for the roof beams while he used his saw-zaw (??) on the notches - and he was also the one on the ladder nailing everything up.
We managed to get the roof framed and then cut the spaces out for our windows. (Don't look too closely or you will notice the window slots are not even...that's because the windows we have are not even...SHHH it's suppose to be a secret!!
)

DAY THREE Build:
This Saturday (if it doesn't rain), we are hoping to have the roof finished - complete with shingles and depending on how LONG that takes, we might even get the walls up!!
I hope you had fun watching our progress...I know I'm excited to get our 7 Orpingtons on 4/16!!!!!!
Edited to update progress!!
Update:
Day THREE BUILD:
I was put in charge of shingling (until I was fired for not spacing them correctly) and managed to snap a picture of my initial few rows

My job is now to paint and work and by the end of day three:

Day FOUR BUILD:
Windows and pop door were the focus of this day. More would have been accomplished, but due to tornadoes, we had to quit early.

We did manage to get our delivery:

The DD already picked out names for them!! (I believe they are listed on page 3 or so)
Day FOUR & Half BUILD:
Well...I managed to do a little work this morning on the run while the DH was at work. Last night he dug the holes and got the posts all situated. This is a partial "apron" or "skirt" for the run. The bottom is 12" and we plan to bury it and probably another 12" or so. There will be a door in the middle of the run (to be made) and the whole run will be enclosed in hardware cloth. The current run size is 12'x12', although the door COULD be a walkway for another run in the future!!
What? I heard about chicken math!!
I couldn't attach anymore of the cloth without a second set of hands, so this is it for now. Day five build will be this Saturday!!
