Our buff Orpington hen has an eye infection, which she has had since she was 1 week old. She has foam coming out of her eye, and she is now 3 months old. It started getting better a week ago, though.

Have you rinsed the eye at all? Wiped it with a warm cloth? Are any of your other chickens showing foam? Does she (or any of the flock) have respiratory symptoms? I've only known foam/bubbles in the eye to happen w/ respiratory infections and she'd need antibiotics in that case to be cleared of the bubbles, although I have read of folks on here that had chickens with foamy eyes because of debris in it. Best of luck!

We have washed the eye with a damp cloth, but have not rinsed it. None of the other chickens have foam comIng out of their eyes. How can you tell if there is a respiratory symptom? Thanks.

I use one quart of boiled water and one tablespoon of Boric Acid for my children's eye infection. A couple drops twice a day and it will be gone in no time. It works better and faster than prescription eye drops. Just use a syringe without a needle to get it in her eye.
