Our Chicken Arks!

We lose some to predators, I am a pretty good shot with a .22 so the skunks are no problem. We don't have coyotes coming around, and the raccoons stay away for some reason. The only real problem we have is red tails, but we have quite a bit of cover and the roo's send out their calls to make the flock scatter whenever they fly over.

We have some that still lay in the woods. We hike the hill every other day, we are also going to build a "laying ark" next to the base of the hills. Works with our free range hens.

And Carol, Yes we are!!

Nicely done!

Extremely nice arks you have built, truly! Heavy gauge materials and awesome design for function. I was wondering, roughly how heavy your arks are and what horsepower you tractor is to tow it? I have to move an 8'x8'x5' coop with a tractor of 32 hp. I worry it isn't enough cause of the coop weight which is unknown to me but very heavy. Thanks and great job!!

Thank you all for your kind words!

Ii is hard to estimate the weight. Maybe around 800? I will sit down and figure it out this weekend since I am extremely interested as well.

As far as the tractor goes it is a 55hp case. Pulls the ark with ease. I go slow to prevent anything happening to the ark. The overall dimension of the building is 8'x12', the skids add an extra foot on the front and back. The height of the arks at their peak is 4'8".

I would think that 32hp would be enough if you take a low gear and secure the coop well enough.

Good luck!

your killing me here!

I was the designated driver this weekend for a Santa Rita Hills winery run....and what do I see out in the beautiful green field with a bunch of happy hens running around.

Then you post your chicks on CL and just the babies I want!

Arggg
