So, we are new to chickens, our babies are about 6-7 weeks old. We have a three year old mixed breed dog, and I was very concerned about their interactions after reading many posts. No need for concern! She is so good with the chicks, very protective and careful. When we have them out free ranging, she will gently herd them back into the coop on command! What a blessing! She is part cattle dog, mixed with jack russell, terrier, but I never expected her to be able to work with the chickens! Here's hoping she stays this way, for now they are still only together when supervised.

Awwww...she looks so sweet. I think you are smart not to leave them unsupervised but it sounds like she is off to a great start. The JRT would worry me but as long as she didn't get much of the terrier prey drive, you might be alright. I have two dogs that are chicken safe and it is wonderful to be able to trust them, and know that their presence helps to keep predators at bay, so I hope your dog continues to work out.

I was worried about the JRT too, but so far so good! She def. likes to chase the squirrels, but I think she thinks of the chicks as part of her pack. Yesterday my kids accidentally left the coop open, and I looked outside to see her putting them all back in! Scared me for a minute, but she was so good with them, so she was rewarded with treats. I hope it stays this way, we have hawks in our area, and anything to help deter them is helpful!

Thats great! And your dog is really cute.

I have a jack russell mix and hes good with our chickens too. Herds 'em up for us:)
