The barn cats, who are fed lovely cat food so don't have to eat rodents, find it HILARIOUS to catch the various vermin and drop it near a chicken when free ranging. Even better if they can get it to a Roo, who does the buka-buka-buka song, and ALL the girls run over. Yes, tug of war with mice is rather disgusting.
But MORE disgusting? The barn crew hunts and leaves a pile of vermin by the door to the coop/run if the chooks are locked up. So come spring, you have to be VERY careful walking out there because they often leave the pile right in the foot path.
