we have a lot of flower gardens in our yard and I have read other posts about it and I am wondering how high the fence should be and what kind of material should be used to build it and was also wondering if the chili powder works to keep the chickens out of gardens can I please have so advice thanks

It is far, far easier, imho, to fence the chickens into a pen of their own than to try and fence multiple flower gardens. Chickens are notorious for ruining gardens, flower bds, dusting where they want, tearing up stuff, digging pot holes big enough to sprain an ankle in. Well, you get the picture.

Fred's got a great point. I find that the chickens are not too damaging in the established well-filled in beds. They actually keep some of the young weeds in check with the scratching. However, anytime I plant something new, I have to wrap fencing around it until it gets established, otherwise they dig it up and kill the plant/shrub. This year, my young pullets have decided that lilacs and raspberry leaves are snacks. Never had an issue with the hens eating them. Go figure.

We use a 2 foot fence around our vegetable garden. They don't bother it.
