My husband built this over the last few weeks. It's almost done. The hardware cloth still needs to go up and he needs to put in a ladder to the roosts for when they are still little. We need to hang the feeder and water, but that will get done tonight. We're going to let them settle in for a while before letting them into the run, so the hardware cloth isn't a major emergency. They are quickly outgrowing their brooder and I'm ready for them to go out!
The coop is 7x8 and the run is 14 x8 (half that is under the coop, of course). We have 11 6 week old chicks, but 4 are roos and will be re-homed. We'd like to have a flock of 10 at some point, and I think this coop should be big enough for 10 to be pretty comfortable. Sorry for the obnoxious number of pics.
Here it is from a distance in the yard.
Here is the north side with nesting box access.
Here is the west side with a nice big screened window.
Here is the south side. You can see a long ventilation window that will be covered with hardware cloth.
Here are the roosts and poop boards. Hopefully the girls don't fight over a window view.
This is the feeder that DH made. Needs to be hung on the wall.
Nesting boxes.
This is the east side with another screened window and the door. He needs to build a stair or two so I can get my butt in there when I need to!
If anyone has last minute suggestions for improvement, we'd love to hear them! I think we're going to need to add another permanent ventilation panel for the winter since the windows won't be open then, but that can happen later. I hope the chicks like it.
