My husband built this over the last few weeks. It's almost done. The hardware cloth still needs to go up and he needs to put in a ladder to the roosts for when they are still little. We need to hang the feeder and water, but that will get done tonight. We're going to let them settle in for a while before letting them into the run, so the hardware cloth isn't a major emergency. They are quickly outgrowing their brooder and I'm ready for them to go out!

The coop is 7x8 and the run is 14 x8 (half that is under the coop, of course). We have 11 6 week old chicks, but 4 are roos and will be re-homed. We'd like to have a flock of 10 at some point, and I think this coop should be big enough for 10 to be pretty comfortable. Sorry for the obnoxious number of pics.

Here it is from a distance in the yard.

Here is the north side with nesting box access.

Here is the west side with a nice big screened window.

Here is the south side. You can see a long ventilation window that will be covered with hardware cloth.

Here are the roosts and poop boards. Hopefully the girls don't fight over a window view.

This is the feeder that DH made. Needs to be hung on the wall.

This is the east side with another screened window and the door. He needs to build a stair or two so I can get my butt in there when I need to!

If anyone has last minute suggestions for improvement, we'd love to hear them! I think we're going to need to add another permanent ventilation panel for the winter since the windows won't be open then, but that can happen later. I hope the chicks like it.

I don't know how bad the racoons are in your area but mine are murder.
I just added hardware cloth over my glass screened windows. This way, I'm able to leave the screened windows open on those hot summer nights for ventilation. I just used screws with washers.

Yep, we have raccoons. I guess I thought the window screens would handle it, but now that I think about it they wouldn't stand a chance against a raccoon. We'll cover them. Thanks for the tip so we didn't have to learn the hard way.

very nice coop

i like how the coop is raised like that. was it designed like that so that the chickens could go seek shade? because if so, i really like that idea.
the only thing i saw i might suggest, which you might be planning on anyways is maybe some vinyl on the poop boards to make it a little easier to clean. I have actually found 12" x 12" self stick vinyl tiles at Family Dollar, i think there are like 20 peices per box for like 11 dollars, which would really cover alot of your board i think and might assist in clean up.
hope that helps

Indianporfavor, it is raised because it was originally going to be a movable coop. It was going to be smaller and yada yada yada. At this point it's not going anywhere, but I"m really glad it's raised so the chicks have some shade in the summer and hopefully a covered area in our Wisconsin winters. I'm sure it'll still be snowy, but we'll see.

I'm either going to cover the poop boards, or I might buy some inexpensive plastic trays and just remove those instead of the whole board. Haven't quite decided yet.
