So here are the rough pictures of the coop. We still need to add the roof panels (clear fiberglass) and the wire around the run and bottom of coop. Hubby has to add in the ventilation around the top, and put the floor in (it will be hinged for easy cleaning).

Other than that, this ginormis tractor coop is almost done! What do you think?

The above picture is at an angle, looking at the girls door from the coop, to the run.

Here is a straight on shot- the man door is on the right and the coop is in the back. The roof trusses are almost ready for the roof to be added!

And the last picture is the very back of the coop- there is the egg collection door and the part of the run that goes under the coop.

I will get picture of the inside and all tomorrow, I hope. Maybe we will have the vents and wire on by then. Any comments or suggestions?! =)

Love it so far.. looks very roomy and sturdy! Mine is tiny compared to yours ! We started ours today and after 4 hrs in the hot FL sun, we were done...more on Friday when we have off again...so, how big should the chicken door be? Is 1'x1' big enough? I think that is all I will be able to make because of the way it is constructed and hooks to the run.

very very nice but you sould know that chicken need to be in tems 40 - 80 *F . also you need a vent if don't have one for many reasons. ( i am a expert )

Thanks everyone! I am so nervous and so proud of my husband! (being pregnant I haven't been able to help/sweat much with him) It was my job to research teh specifics and his job to make them happen- he's a mechanical engineer. ;)

About the ventilation, 3 sides of the top of the coop are vented. Hubby did the roof on an angle, so there will be plenty of ventilation for the summer. We are going to add a few more on the side, and then close them up for winter so they're not too cold. Do you think that will be okay?
Also for the roof, we are actually doing 2 clear panels and 3 white, so there is more shade. THe clear just provides cover, not really "shade" to keep them cool.

Fortunately he has been able to build it in our carport, out of the sun! It has to be done by Thursday because we are leaving for vacation (3 days), and I really want it done tomorrow or Wed so they can try it out before we leave. I'm a NERVOUS WRECK about putting them outside! haha

I'm not actually sure how big our door is, but I did a search (after he cut ours in ... oops!) and read on one thread that 12X14 was plenty big for a specific turkey breed that is bigger than chickens. So 12x12 should be fine. Someone did ention they wished theirs was wider, so there weren't "traffice jams," but with only 5-8 chickens I don't suspect we will have many traffic jams. ;)
