Our coop pics...SO proud!!! =0) Any suggestions for us?

That looks great. I am just in the "homework" stage for finding a good design for a coop. I sure wish there was a huge catalogue out there to show lots of ideas. Do you know of any? What is the flooring in your coop? Concrete? Also, what will you do for your run - sand, gravel?
Thanks for the advice.

Also, what is your floor space inside the coop? Really Nice Job!!!

Impressive!

Just one thought...those roosts look like they are 4" wide...how about adding one they could grab onto? Say a fat dowel, branch or 2x2 with rounded edges. Lets 'em get full use out of the old talons.

I think they like that sort of thing...

IMHO

for cleaning ease...were *thinking* sand for the run...its a dirt pile now but either sand or just pine shavings...HTH!

they are--i saw them on someone else's example and just looked like it would be more comfortable for them to "lay" on...but i might look into the thick dowel idea! thks!

2x2 are better for smaller birds like bantams, but for standard or heavy you want the 2x4. And yest they do tend to lay or set down on their feet when roosted. I have one hen that actually turns sideways on the roost and sets that way all night.

Actually, chickens do not grip with their rear toes in the same way as wild birds do. And some birds are just way too large for a dowel rod, like my Blue Orp rooster, whose feet are 5" wide from back to front. And with 2x4's, they can cover their feet with their feathers in cold weather.
