Our coop pics...SO proud!!! =0) Any suggestions for us?

If you don't mind me asking, about how much has that run you? My DH designed one and then did his "cost analysis" thing on me and told me it would have been $900! Your coop is beautiful, by the way!!

they are--i saw them on someone else's example and just looked like it would be more comfortable for them to "lay" on...but i might look into the thick dowel idea! thks!

Your roosts are perfect. Leave them as is.

I just painted my floor vs. the laminate. It sealed up the floor nicely and cost nothing since I already had the paint for the walls.
Your coop is just beautiful. W.O.W.
PS - I have sand in my run too and I love it!!

Actually, chickens do not grip with their rear toes in the same way as wild birds do. And some birds are just way too large for a dowel rod, like my Blue Orp rooster, whose feet are 5" wide from back to front. And with 2x4's, they can cover their feet with their feathers in cold weather.

AWESOME--then were good...mine are regular's not bantam's so they'll be happy and content with what we have and DH will be happy he doesnt have to change anything! THANKS!

thanks so much! i'm not completely sure on the total yet--we've been doing it for a couple months so just pay a little here and there-but did a cost analysis for us before and it was around $500-$700 BUT our next door neighbor is a contractor and get's us cost on the wood...AND got us a FREE roof--underlay and everything from extra's he had around! THANK GOODNESS...that was a huge help! Linoleum we got for the floor and poop board was half off b/c of scrap...we got really lucky cost wise and figure at some point them keeping us home more b/c were enjoying them so much will keep us (me) from the mall...HAHAHA...SO....

Really though...thanks everyone for all the nice comments--hopefully they enjoy it in about a month just as much as ya'll do!

No, no --- not suggesting you take out the roosts you already have...certainly no need for that.

Now, I appreciate learning from the other commenters' experience, but my chickens seem happy to roost up on some fat hazelnut branches when they can....they also like their 2x4 roost (tall side vertical)...they also like roosting up on the little flat roof inside their run.

Just sayin'....a little variety is a good thing. They don't NEED it, but I tend to think they like it.

IMHO, YMMV.

Best wishes to ya Mama2B&D&...Chickens!
