Our coop rebuild, need a rework on the interior

For now, I put a piece of the tarp I cut up on the open space so they wouldn’t bounce off of chicken wire. I did leave an opening for air movement. No one seems to be having issues now and they are All roosting instead of sitting in nest boxes... winning?

I could block it all off with wire, probably much safer, but then maybe I’d be back to chickens in nests because they aren’t all best friends??

If the roost are higher than the nests they are not likely to sleep in them.
Can always block nests before roost time, then uncover when locking up after dark.
I'd permanently block off the upper row of nests.

I THINK, I have some fancy metal nest boxes coming from the old farmstead. If that’s the case these ones will be set aside. And probably re built by someone that actually uses a measuring tape rather than eyeballing it. And the new ones will be sanitized and installed. I don’t think they can actually get into the upper ones now. The cats love them though. So I removed all the straw from those ones and put some carpet
In them. And put their straw back in the three bottom ones they Do use and can get to easily. See how that works out tomorrow. Everyone was much to concerned with the goings on to be laying any eggs today.
