Its only been a few weekends of work but here is our coop so far, any comments or suggestions welcome!

Frame and beginning of the floor.

Sides have been attached and we've cut the roof to size.

We also cut a section for their door and acquired and piece perfect for them to get in and out.

Recycled pieces of wood made perfect siding. Also, might I add, we have only had to pay for the reciprocating saw used to disassemble pallets, screws, and square tiles of linoleum so far for this project. We are attempting to spend under $150 on the whole thing! We shall see!

The girls! In their temporary home, anxiously waiting for us to finsh their permanent home! :)

& finally, todays progress, mostly thanks to my husband. This is the start to the backside where their nesting boxes while be. We attached siding to the top and secured their boxes, but we will need to add dividers for the individual boxes and a solid roof.

The drop down door. For easy access to eggs and cleaning of old bedding.

Again, any suggestions or comments welcome!

:)

I will add more pictures to this post as we go on if you care to follow!

Thanks.

Looking good so far...........suggestions...Ventilation is very important. I don't see any in your coop. Here's a picture of ours. 1/2" hardware cloth is a good wire to use. Chicken wire is no strong enough to keep out most predators.

Also some windows. Chickens need some fresh air and some light.

Your chicks are very cute.

Like your budget coop, so nice to have a raised coop for shade.

One suggestion, shouldn't the ramp in and out be a ramp?do chickens go up and down a ladder? We have a ladder roost inside .

Maybe someone more experienced will know

The rectangle part on the front will be used for ventilation, just havent gotten that far yet. Lol. Will need to add some with a hole saw for the back as well. When we install the front doors I was going to try to figure out a way to add some sort of window but havent quite figured that one out yet. You're pictures gave me some great ideas for that though! You're coops looks great, would love to see the whole thing!

We will attach it to a solid piece of wood when we get that far. Just have done it yet.

I noticed from your pictures you were using chicken wire. Chicken wire isn't strong enough to keep out most predators. 1/2" hardware is a lot stronger. You never know what predators will show up unexpected!! Here's ours. The bobcat is looking right at our chickens but they were fine because he couldn't get through the hardware cloth. This was taken with a game/trail camera.
