Our coop enclosure is a little different. My brother in law built a 12 by 12 enclosure for our chickens. It is inside a 3 side metal shed. I say the top ceiling rafters are 12 or more high feet high. Only the south side of the enclosure is exposed. South allows light not much drafts. If the temp dips below 32 degrees we have a yellow light we turn on. Decision was made to do it since it is not fully enclosed. We open the enclosure in the morning, they usually stay near by. We leave the door open all day. They sun bath have access to green grass and pasture. We repurposed branches for them to roost on and created and incline with a 2x4 in case they want to roost higher. Some like to be in the rafters at night. My EE likes the highest corner she can find, one night I thought I had an owl, nope EE wanted that corner. I do a head count in the morning and one at night. I use sand in the coop until the weather changes and I bring in a couple bales of straw. I cut the cords and let them play and spread the straw around. I have a big orange igloo for water along with different food stations.

Thank you. My flock is a mellow bunch, I have 7 8week old chicks in the coop with them. Flock has accepted them, older hens are teaching them the pecking order when it comes to food. I put them out in there plastic brooder so the hens could smell them for a week or so, then I let them out.
