Our coop

No, it is not just you. There are about 6 in there. We are unsure why this is happening, maybe the girls have to "go" at night and can't fly up to the nests because it is dark? I guess we find about one a week in there, not a big loss when we get ~17 eggs a day (in the nests), but still a mystery. We just leave them in there for the garden because of all the chicken, ...ehem..., in there. If anyone has a clue, I'd be interested in hearing it!

Nice Set up! I have sex links too and, yes, they are terrrific egg machines!

I wonder if a juvie squirrel could be trying to roll an egg out of the nest on occasion. I have seen them make off with all kinds of things! One even tried to take a styrofoam cup up a tree: now that was hilarious!

Hello,

Nice coop!

The eggs in the roost box are possibly because of its orientation to the nests. Best set-up would probably be; roost high/ nest low. Don't know why chickens are like this but, that seems many times to be their preference.

good luck

Hello Harvey,

It must be this breed then, because I modeled this setup on an old arrangement my Grandparents had. They never lost eggs like that. Thanks for the tip though, I am now wondering how I can watch them to see what they are doing.... Maybe a hidden camera??? Hidden, what am I thinking
