Our coop

We just have 3 chickens so have a small coop. They have a dog run it is enclosed in. When one of us is home the chickens get the run of the yard but during the day when we are gone they stay in the run. At night they are shut in the coop. We have raccoons that explore our yard at night so we are trying to keep our ladies safe. New to chickens and so far they seem happy.

Not sure where you are, but you do have your coop secured well. Raccoons usually come out at dusk . as well as opossums and skunks. Are snakes of a concern in your area? You mention that you only let them free range when you are there. It is a good thing. Concern is for flying raptors like hawks.
