our counsel members just voted to allow chickens they voted NO

our city counsel member just voted to loosen the ban on chickens and they voted NO. now it looks like there is not much hope to bring this for another vote until we get new counsel which will be a long time because these members are new the ones that were for changing the laws stepped down as members. all I know is those new members lost my vote for sure! politics! ridicoulas! now I can not have chickens unless I want to be an outlaw. this sucks. I should have the right on my own land to have chickens! very sad about the decision...I feel like its hopeless now

Just wondering where your are in CA? I am in SoCal and chickens are allowed in my city and all neighboring cities.

Can you tell us how it was presented? Did the community bring this up, and the new members "shot it down?" Did anyone try to lobby the new members or did they just go on their gut? If they're new -- thay might not want to go out on a limb for chicken owners, or they might not understand the issue.

Rather than wait to change the council, maybe you can change minds. (Or, maybe not. Depends on the council members.) Politicians can be convinced IF they think they are on a winning side.

lots of people lobbied to change the law we even had 4H members speak but they shot it down believe it or not they said chickens would hurt our already awful air quality it was utterly ridicules. so now if we want chickens we are outlaws..
I hate this town! the old council members brought it up and were for it but by the time it went to vote they were gone and they just totally shut us down with one excuse after another of utter bull ****. its so depressing! I can't even find a web site of like minded chicken lovers in my town I've looked... this really bites...I was praying for a change but it didn't happen..
