Our fence flew away...

I know laws are different in other areas. Fences are not required, however, everyone has them. The point is, it is to replace a fence that they jury-rigged to keep standing instead of fixing. If the fence was there, and it fell down, they are required to pay their portion if notified ahead of time. Anyways...I was just ranting earlier about the pain in the rump having to deal with neighbors and a new fence is. Didn't want to start any sort of argument.

Since the fence has been there(and its not a NEW thing) .... i'm sure your law will still apply... they'll have to help you pay for the fencing..
Just my guess...

In the neighborhood that I live in the lots back up to the neighbors lawn. So when the neighborhood was brand new 20 years ago, often who ever moved into their house first would build the fence. So the fences were built with the nice side of the fence faced their yard. So the fence belongs to the neighbors on three sides of our house. We built the front sections of fence after we moved in. We still get the benefits of all the fencing around our home even though we only own the front sections.

We rely on all the fencing to keep our animals on our property. So now that all the fencing is 20 years old, and we get high winds in our town, it is only a matter of time before the fence will blow down. We plan on sharing the cost of replacing the fence with our neighbors. All ready one neighbor has replaced her fencing on her side of our house with fencing that looks great on both sides. She would not let us share the costs with her, but we did offer.

There is still 2 more sides to do. But we are not going to push, until the neighbors ask us about the fencing. I would love to have all the fencing look great on both side if at all possible. I will get what get. At least I have a back up plan if the fencing goes down. It just will make it easier for the dogs to bark at the neighbor's dog though.

For those on the east coast, think of it like a shared private road. We each own half of it. I know it's a strange concept, but to us west coasters, it is a strange concept to have suburbs with no fences.

My Dad volunteered to help, and a couple friends volunteered, so weather permitting, we should have it up in 2-3 weeks. We're going to see if there is much difference between the prebuilt panels and pickets. I don't think that there is much of a difference, especially if you count in time. I'd rather not spend forever building this fence when we have so much else left to do. At least I pruned the roses back hard this winter...otherwise they would have been a death trap.
