Once they are really broody they won't lay any more eggs.
If you have other chickens that can get in her nest make sure and mark the eggs
that you want her to hatch so that you can take the other eggs that the other hens
might lay in her nest.
Congrats and good luck.

Congratulations!! My first hatch is happening right now so it's absolutely an exciting experience!! I can't wait for you to experience this! 1 out already...2 more to go! You'll love it!

Just be sure to candle those eggs...with my first ever broody I didn't candle and not 1 single egg was made it to day 18. I had an egg explode-all those days were for nothing. Had I candled, I could've replaced those eggs for her. So IMO, just be sure to candle.

And Good luck! You'll love it!

Thanks for the replies. I didn't even think about marking the eggs, I will do that first thing in the morning. I have eggs in the bator now so I
learned how to candle, it is so neat to see the babies developing in there. Should I wait for her to get off the nest for a drink or should I take
her off and candle? I am thinking I should candle at day 4 or 5??? Any advice is welcomed

The eggs in the bator are due to hatch on the 24th, only one more week to go. It's driving me crazy

I'll be right there with you on that one then too! I have a turkey on 7 chicken eggs due on the 22nd...so exciting!! She was on 9, but I candled today and 2 were no good. Anyway, I would just pick yours up and candle those eggs. My best candling for new eggs was on day 7 for me. So easy to see the veining. By then there was no question. And it is amazing watching those little dark spots moving around in those eggs!

Okay so I will candle on day 7, I can't wait. I candled on days 7 and 14 with the eggs in the bator, it really is amazing isn't it? Out of
23 we only had 5 duds. I hope the rest make it to hatch day

Thanks for the advice

Make sure to post when your turkey hatches those
chicks

I'll definitely post when Slim (my turkey) hatches those chicks!! We were 100% successful by this morning....3 out of 3 hatched by the barred rock! Plus, while candling one of those eggs on day 7 I cracked it...sealed it with clear fingernail polish....voila! Little chicky today! It is amazing!

Good luck on your hatch! And keep us posted!
