So we noticed our americauna hen was limping and checked her out and sure enough she has bumblefoot! But instead of the signature black scab, it was flesh and puss like the scab was already pulled off. I sent my dad to get epsom salt to soak it, iodine to put on it, and something to wrap it with. I know chicken puss isn't as liquid-like like ours is and is more hard, how should we get it out? Tweezers? We have her in a separate cage right now away from the other birds

I do not have a picture at the moment

If you got thst plug out, and icky stuff that you spoke of, sounds like you are doing great. Now, change that bandage every other day... that's what I do. :) I also always put neo s. on it at each change.

@Cynthia12 We didn't take the scab off, it was off when we checked her. But hey, one less thing for us lol so should we not try to get the puss out and just put iodine on it and wrap it?

Oh, I use a punch if it hasn't already opened, but this one has from the sound of it. You still may have to cut around it yo get it all ouy..small scissors .. or exacto knife.

Here are photos of the sequence. I have these tools, because I have had to deal with bumble foot through the years. Good luck! Any more questions..ask. :)

Neo S. goes into the hole.

put gauze wrapping over the hole.

use that stretch bandage to hold it all together.

I use this tape to wrap more, some folks don't. The stretch can keep hold, but I've had it come off.

All done!

She's checking it out. They get used to the bandaging real quick, then go about eating/foraging. :) Like I said, I change the bandage every couple of days the first few changes, then every three once I see it's healing up some, you will be able to tell. Once it's healed over, off come the bandages. :)
