Well, it happened! We have noticed our white leghorn's combs (one more than the other) have been getting darker and darker daily. We knew it was coming any time now as our leghorns turned 4 months on the the 26th and thats around when they start laying.
Behold, this morning, while it was still dawn, Rose produced her first egg! When we went out this morn to let them out to free range, the nest had an egg in it.
The other white leghorn, Daisy, has just started getting a darker comb the past few days so hopefully she will follow suit in a week or so.
We are proud chicken parents.
In the photos, Rose is pecking over the bank and Daisy is posing for the camera. And notice, we used dummy wooden eggs in our laying boxes as reccommended by some others. Rose's egg is the smaller one on the right side in the left box.
