Day 17

We have three little babies. So far all three look perfect and healthy.

Fingers crossed for the remaining four eggs.

Day 18.

Unfortunately the remaining four eggs didn't hatch. I candled them this evening and they looked dead. I opened them to find one died before absorbing the yolk, the other three looked fully formed, but never internally pipped. They all looked dehydrated and shriveled up, only filling half of the shells.
Not sure what exactly happened, but I don't think I'll be hatching again, at least not until I know what happened and how to prevent it from happening again.

On a happier note, our three beautiful hatchlings are doing fabulously, and I'm just so relieved they're all healthy, happy and absolutely perfect. I really can't wait to see what they grow into and how they'll look.

Thank you for all the advice, and moral support in our little adventure (Special thanks to @Nabiki ) . We'll still be around on the forum and I have no doubt we'll have plenty more questions in the coming weeks. Until then, here is a picture of our adorable new additions.

Three is better than one. What was your humidity at lockdown? That's when you really want to bump it up. Buttons like high humidity at that point, so up to as much as 70% is good.

Someone I know lost one of her buttons (she was over 4 years old) and only has one left. She hasn't been able to find any birds, but she found eggs, so she's ordering them and having them sent to me to hatch. I'll get to raise them and send a couple home with her when she comes to visit, but I'm going to have buttons again!

Between 70 and 75, sometimes going as high as 80 when it rained outside. Before lockdown it was fairly stable at 45%-55% (without water)
Keeping humidity down was more my issue. I bought a bigger dehumidifier, but it was filling with water and turning off often. My hygrometer was salt tested, and reads about 3% low. We did notice that some of the eggs had very bright "speckled" spots, almost like pin pricks all over, when we candled, but they seemed to develop anyway and I figured it was just their colouration. Looking back at pictures now, I'm fairly certain these are the ones that didn't hatch. And I remember egg number nine had a huge air cell from quite early.

Eeeek!! Yay! Please post updates on your hatch, I can't wait to follow and admire your little fuzzy buttons. I'm so excited for you.
