I have considered ourselves very lucky. We have raised all the chicks we have purchased over the years but today unfortunately we lost our first chicken. One of our favorites a buff named Minnie. The thing is she didn't ever seem sick, looked healthy, was laying consistently, no signs of trauma or animal involvement, didn't have any mites that we can tell, and we keep a clean coop. We just can't figure out what happened to her. She is young still (about 2). It just looks like she went to sleep in the corner of the coop today. Any suggestions on what could have happened? Do they die that young naturally?

Chickens will make every effort to act healthy as long as possible. Makes it difficult sometimes to se who's under the weather. Many reasons for hens to be ill; without a post mortem exam you'll never know. So sorry for your loss, Mary
